About Craig Muccio

I spent 33 years with one of the largest utility companies in the Southeast, with approximately 4.5 million customers. It is not only one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, it has one of the largest and most successful energy-efficiency programs in the nation. My roles included managing the energy research projects for the demand side department within the areas of residential and commercial HVAC (heating, cooling and ventilation), building envelope, water heating, dehumidification, and variable speed motors.

I managed numerous solar energy projects installed at high-profile locations and worked alongside research departments of the Florida Solar Energy Center, the University of Central Florida, the University of Florida, University of Miami, Florida Institute of Technology, University of South Florida Clean Energy Research Center, Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, Itron, and Navigant.

For years, I was the “Ask The Energy Expert” on the corporate blog. This fit in with my love of analyzing the facts to separate truth from fiction. Many consumers are being sold a bill of goods by companies that claim energy savings that are not substantiated. As solar and sustainable energy have become more popular, it is important to understand the investment and returns that you can reasonably expect from these technologies.
